Power Station Madness for Southall

Southall faces the prospect of a Power Station being built in the heart of a residential area. The proposed Power Station will consume 76,000 litres of virgin vegetable oil a day, which could be palm oil, the most destructive and cheapest agrofuel on the planet.

Judging by its record, it is questionable whether Ealing council will give any consideration to the damaging impact of this bio-fuel Power Station on air pollution, traffic, the environment, world hunger and human rights abuses. Be under no illusion, the primary motive behind council decisions when it comes to Southall is revenue-generation, and not resident’s well-being (as it would have you believe).

The decision on the planning application, filed by Blue NG, is expected to be made by the council in a meeting set for 22nd July 2009.

Let’s shake off the lethargy, and speak up against the continuing assault by Ealing on the quality of our environment and on the people of Southall! Please contact your local councillors and ask them to object to the proposal.

Southall is publicised as a pleasant, diverse and law-abiding community by the council, and a multitude of plans have been discussed for its regeneration, such as new plans for the Gas Works site, a new transport hub, etc. The reality is rather different, politicians and LBE officers don’t have time for Southall and we don’t exist when it comes to providing decent level of services.

Without their knowledge, Southall councillors are being manipulated by the council. But the truth is Southall is at the bottom of the pile in their list of priorities. Oh yes, the politicians and LBE officers like our food our money and like to be photographed with us – the show must go on.

But residents are also partly to blame for the sad state of Southall – we too (specially the businesses) are driven by the money and greed motive. It would be interesting to know how many people have written to the council on this matter, or have bothered to lift their pen to sign a petition.

I was pleased to see that the Councillors on the Planning Committee UNANIMOUSLY agreed to reject the proposal on Wednesday despite the Planning Department recommendation to approve it.

ZERO votes for it. TEN votes against it.

The application now goes back to Boris Johnson’s office as Mayor of London.

    What will he decide ?

  3. Nanos says:

How about a geothermal power station instead ?
